Bietigheim-Bissingen, July 16, 2015 - Dürr has upgraded a 17-year-old paint shop for automaker Shanghai General Motors (SGM) in record time, making it more environment-friendly. In just six weeks a large proportion of the existing painting equipment was removed and replaced with the latest technology. As a result, SGM can now apply environment-friendly water-based instead of solvent-based paints. The order, worth in excess of € 30 million, is Dürr’s largest upgrade project to date in China.

Between the end of March and mid-May 2015 Dürr dismantled almost all the old lines and installed new paint booths with a total length of 150 meters in the existing building. In addition, 24 painting robots were installed, together with a kilometer of conveyor systems, 14 kilometers of paint circulation lines, 100 kilometers of cable, new air supply units and driers. The dip painting line was also refurbished. At the peak of the work Dürr was coordinating more than 1,200 workers on the site via an international team of 95 experts. The smooth handling of the order placed in 2014 enabled the work to be completed six days ahead of the scheduled seven weeks.
