Energy Commissioner Oettinger visits Dürr

Bietigheim-Bissingen, May 4, 2012 - EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger informed himself about energy-efficient production systems during a tour of the Dürr Technology Center in Bietigheim-Bissingen on Friday. The machinery and plant engineering group’s CEO, Ralf W. Dieter, showed the guest from Brussels the micro gas turbine technology and the Organic Rankine Cycle process, which uses waste heat to generate electricity. Dieter also presented energy and material-saving technologies for automobile painting as well as new developments for heat storage, heat transfer, and heat and cold conversion.

Ralf Dieter commented: “Dürr is actively shaping the trend towards energy-efficient production processes, and is thus contributing towards the change in energy policy. Our customers are focusing more and more on economical processes in order to cut costs and manufacture sustainably.”

Expanding the energy efficiency activities is a core element of Dürr’s corporate strategy. Last year the group set up the new Clean Technology Systems division to push this business. Sales revenues of over € 200 million are targeted by the year 2015; this is also to be supported by technology and company acquisitions.

Oettinger’s visit was in connection with the Dürr Open House 2012. At this in-house exhibition, running until May 11, Dürr is informing customers from the automobile industry and other sectors about latest innovations.

Dürr is a mechanical and plant engineering group that holds leading positions in the world market in its areas of operation. It generates a good 80% of its sales in business with the automotive industry. It also supplies the aircraft, machinery, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries with innovative production and environmental technology. The Dürr Group operates in the market with four divisions. Paint and Assembly Systems plans and builds paintshops and final assembly systems for the automobile industry. Application Technology provides automated paint application, sealing, and glueing with its robot technologies. Machinery and systems from the Measuring and Process Systems division are used in engine and transmission manufacturing and in final vehicle assembly, among other areas. The fourth division, Clean Technology Systems, is focused on processes to improve energy efficiency and on exhaust air purification. Dürr has 50 business locations in 23 countries worldwide and approximately 7,100 employees. The Group achieved sales of € 1.9 billion in 2011.
