Minister-President Kretschmann visits sustainable Dürr paint shop in China

Bietigheim-Bissingen/Shenyang, October 21, 2015 - Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, was briefed today on sustainable paint technology from Dürr in the course of his visit to China. At the Shenyang-Tiexi plant of the BMW-Brilliance joint venture, the Minister-President inspected the paint shop built by Dürr. The visiting delegation also included Baden-Württemberg’s Ministers Winfried Hermann (Transport), Nils Schmid (Finance and Economic Affairs), Andreas Stoch (Education and Cultural Affairs) and Franz Untersteller (Environment).

The paint shop realized in two construction phases was commissioned in 2013 and 2015, respectively. This is a plant of the type Eco+Paintshop, which is particularly low on resource consumption. It uses less than 500 kilowatt-hours of energy per car body painted, equivalent to only a third of what was needed only ten years ago. A key contribution in this regard is made by Dürr’s EcoDryScrubber technology, which enables energy consumption per paint booth to be reduced by up to 60%. The consumption of water and paint as well as space requirements partly also saw a sharp reduction.

During an on-site inspection of the paint shop, Dürr’s Management Board member Ralph Heuwing said: “The primary focus of Dürr’s innovation work is on lowering the energy and material consumption of our products. With the aid of consumption-optimized plant and equipment, we support our customers with cost-efficient and sustainable production solutions.”

The Dürr Group is one of the world's leading mechanical and plant engineering firms. Products, systems and services offered by Dürr enable highly efficient manufacturing processes in different industries. Business with automobile manufacturers and their suppliers accounts for approximately 60% of Dürr's sales. Other market segments include, for example, the mechanical engineering, chemical and pharmaceutical industries and – since the takeover of HOMAG Group AG in October 2014 – the woodworking industry. Dürr has 92 business locations in 28 countries. With about 14,500 employees, the Group plans to generate sales revenues of € 3.4 - 3.5 billion in 2015. The Dürr Group operates in the market with five divisions:
